Sports Facilities

Sports Hall:  PE lessons take place a short bus ride away at Moorways, inside their Olympic Hall, which is the size of 10 badminton courts.  This huge space gives opportunity for boys to be taught as a whole year and groups can be created so pupils work with others of similar ability. During the summer term the pupils experience a range of athletic activities at the wonderful facilities at Moorways Stadium, running on the ‘proper’ tartan track that has hosted Britain’s finest athletes.

Playing Fields:  The School owns over 50 acres of land near the old Pastures Hospital on the Mickleover Country Park estate, where it plays its rugby and cricket matches.  The facilities are used for curriculum games lessons during the winter term, with extensive areas to develop pupils’ rugby skills.  After school practices use the floodlights to a continue players’ development even when the nights get longer!  Matches are played on the 3 rugby pitches that are well looked after by the School’s ground staff and post match hospitality is enjoyed in the Country Park Social Club.

Astro Turfs:  During the spring term the School uses astro turfs at a variety of local sites to play hockey.  The Junior School use Moorways to train and play matches.  On a Wednesday afternoon the 1st and 2nd team travel down to Shobnall to use their newly refurbished astro turf.   Practices for all age groups take place at Mackworth College.

Cricket:  During the cricket term the School uses the facilities in the grounds of its Rykneld Road site.  The boys use the practice nets to develop their batting and bowling skills and the Junior School play their matches on the astro turf pitch in front of the cricket pavilion.   Senior matches are played over at Pastures, where the School can host two matches on grass pitches.

Fitness:  The School has converted Rykneld Hall’s summer house into a fitness room, where a host of fixed and free weights, as well as rowing machines, allow students to develop their cardio-vascular fitness and muscular endurance both for general health and helping towards their involvement in School sport.
