Sport is seen as an integral part of School life here at Derby Grammar School. Pupils receive a good level of entitlement, with separate PE and Games lessons totalling over 3 hours. Physical Education covers a variety of activities that develop fitness; an understanding of how the body works; as well as the specific core skills of the racquet sports and basketball.
Each Year group has its own Games afternoon, with the School retaining the traditional Wednesday afternoon session in Years 11-13 to play competitive matches against other local schools at 1st team level. Lessons are led by trained PE specialists in the three major sports that the School plays, namely rugby in the autumn, hockey in the spring and cricket in the summer. The pupils are encouraged to further develop their fitness and skills in lunchtime and after school practices. The culmination of the hard work the boys and staff put in is the inter-school match programme that allows our teams to compete in block fixtures on a Saturday morning
