The School has a very effective House system which encourages all pupils to participate in the wide range of activities that make up the House competition programme. All pupils from Year 3 upwards are placed in one of four Houses. Two of the Houses (Atkinson and Blackton) are named after founders of the School and the other two Houses (Bemrose and Derby) are named after the city’s former grammar schools. House competitions organised during the year include:- athletics, art, chess, cross county, debating, drama, essay writing, hockey, music, rowing, rugby and swimming,
