All pupils in Year 9 take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme at Bronze Level.
Many of our pupils then opt to take part in the Award at Silver and Gold Level. At all three levels the Duke of Edinburgh Award requires participation in four areas of activity:- Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Expedition. Pupils receive a log book when they have enrolled and then with guidance generally organise their own service, skills and physical recreation activities. The School takes responsibility for organising the expedition ingredient of the Award. All groups receive thorough training and practice expeditions are undertaken before an assessed expedition. Year 9 expeditions take place in the Peak District, while Silver and Gold Expeditions take place further afield, usually in the Lake District.
The School has a good stock of equipment that pupils can use (including tents, rucksacks and cooking equipment).
